What Is Lymphedema Management?
Lymphedema is a chronic condition characterized by swelling — most commonly in the arms or legs — caused by damage to or dysfunction of the lymphatic system. It can develop as a result of cancer treatment (particularly following lymph node removal or radiation), infection, trauma, or as a primary condition present from birth. While lymphedema is not curable, it is highly manageable with the right care. Our Approach
Complete Decongestive Therapy (CDT) is the gold standard treatment for lymphedema and the foundation of our approach. CDT is a multi-component program that combines Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD), compression bandaging, therapeutic exercise, and meticulous skin care — all coordinated to reduce swelling and maintain results over time. We work closely with each patient to understand their specific condition, lifestyle, and goals, and we prioritize patient education throughout the process, so you feel confident managing your lymphedema between sessions.
We treat both primary lymphedema (arising from a congenital or developmental cause) and secondary lymphedema (arising from damage to the lymphatic system, most commonly following cancer treatment). Our team holds a Certified Lymphedema Therapist (CLT) credential, reflecting advanced training in lymphatic anatomy and CDT techniques.

Our lymphedema program serves patients with upper and lower extremity lymphedema at any stage. We frequently work with breast cancer survivors, patients who have undergone lymph node dissection, individuals with gynecologic or urologic cancers, and patients with primary lymphedema. We also see patients experiencing early-stage lymphedema (mild swelling and heaviness) and those managing more advanced presentations.
